Pearse Malthouse

My work is based on the love of the rhythms found in nature and it’s myriad of textures and structures. Noticing small changes that happen over time as a result of the change in seasons, the light, growth, the rain, wind and fire, and in doing so, trying to bring a memory of its pulse back to the built environment.
Having migrated to Australia from France in my twenties I have never failed to be astounded by the rough, uncultivated beauty of the Australian landscape.
This drawing is from a series created by taking rubbings of the bark and tree trunks of the eucalyptus tree.
