Laëtitia Bourget vit et travaille à Paris.

Depuis 1997, elle développe une activité artistique mettant en relation expérience de vie humaine, implantation dans un environnement, contexte social et cycles de vie, à travers des formes variées de production (vidéo, photo, édition, installation, sculpture, dessin, intervention in situ, écriture...). Elle a fait plusieurs séjours en Australie, en particulier à Melbourne, entre 2004 et 2006, au cours desquels elle a pu réaliser un certain nombre de ces œuvres récentes. Les contacts qu’elle a établis à Melbourne lui ont par ailleurs permis d’initier des échanges artistiques au sein de 3015 l’association d’art contemporain dont elle fait partie (www.3015.org).

Peter Westwood (director of the Artist In Residence project at RMIT) wrote :

Laetitia Bourget’s activities are performative and sculptural, and are diverse in media and approach. She has primarily focused on conceptual concerns inherent to contemporary art, questioning the world and the position of ‘self’ in relation to others.
Bourget questions the different principles and codes that rule our private and social life and engages in a genuine commitment to both world issues and those that are more private; she does this in order to learn to be a ‘physical being’, to exercise a permanent critical position and to develop a particular form of consciousness. This attitude aims at allowing new forms of identity and ways of relating that are more attentive to others, and to the world. This becomes evident as a reaction against traditional social mores.
Bourget critiques the constant increase of consumer products to replace unsatisfactory emotional connections, she uses humour as a way to tease conventional conceptions of women's identity, and provokes and exchanges between members of isolated social spheres in order to define and blur boundaries.

Se faire des amis est une série de séquences vidéos réalisées avec des animaux. Ce projet est issu d’un questionnement à la fois des normes sociales et du rapport humain-animal. Il se développe à travers la mise en place de diverses situations de rencontres avec des animaux sauvages ou domestiqués. Tentatives de communication, d’intégration, de contact, de cohabitation, de service… ces situations relèvent à la fois d’un fantasme d’harmonie entre tous les êtres vivants, et d’un désir de contrôle d’une animalité imprévisible et inquiétante.
Des phrases glisse sur l’écran se superposant aux situations. Elles relèvent du registre des conventions sociales et font référence à l’apprentissage d’une sociabilité, d’un savoir-vivre ensemble.

Se faire des amis a été réalisé en grande partie en Australie avec le soutien des Affaires Culturelles de l’Ambassade de France à Sydney, de l’Alliance Française à Melbourne, du AIR project au RMIT à Melbourne et du Mas pour la partie tournée en France.

Making Friends
Video
1999-2006, seven videos, 30 minutes

Making Friends is a series of video realised with animals.
This project stems from the questioning of both social norms and human/animal relationship.
It sets up and works out through various situations of encounters with wild or domesticated animals. Attempts to communicate, integrate, establish contacts, cohabitate, help each others... These situations are ambivalent in their fantasy of harmony between all living creatures and a desire to control an animality that is unpredictable and threatening.
Sentences, belonging to the register of social rules, match the videos as a reference to the experience of a sociability, of a savoir-vivre together.
