Title; Colo
Dimensions; 67 x 98cm
Materials; ink, wax and rice paper
ARTIST STATEMENT
The Colo drawings are a response to the scrappy, dry sclerophyll bushland around the Colo River (which lies at the foot of the Blue Mountains west of Sydney). In terms of myth and reality it is an attempt to view this landscape, the Australian bush, without preconceived notions of order.
These works of ink on rice paper evolve by allowing the seepage of the preceding drawing to become the beginning of the next whilst capturing the scene with the accumulation of marks. One drawing leads on to another and this process of repetition suggests that it is to be about the act of forming rather than form itself. The drawings have been stuck together with wax so to add another opportunity for randomness and chance to play its part in the portrayal of this landscape.
